A weekend vehicle accident claimed the life of a high school football player from Lebanon County, according to his school system.

According to a statement from the Cornwall-Lebanon School District, Michael J. Rivera, an 11th grader at Cedar Crest High School, passed away Saturday night.

Student Michael Rivera, who was in the eleventh grade, perished in an automobile accident on Saturday night. As of Monday morning, the specifics of the crash have not been disclosed.

Philip Domencic, superintendent of Cornwall-Lebanon, stated that the departure of Rivera has saddened the entire district. Counselors have been available from the district Monday at the high school for both students and employees.

According to Rob Wildasin, the football coach, Rivera was a large boy with a huge personality. He was always the type of person that was “very, very, very kind, pleasant, friends with everyone.”

“Mike was really an outgoing kid, so he had a lot of friends here in the school and in the community,” the man remarked. He was an extremely likeable young man. I’m not sure why he was referred to as “Big Mike,” but everyone nicknamed him that. It definitely reflects both his character and demeanor.

After learning the news, the Cedar Crest football team postponed its Sunday practice and kickoff gathering with the parents. On Sunday, the Falcon Football Club’s Facebook page issued a statement wishing Rivera’s family well.
